2004-09-16 00:00

On September 14, 2004, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak met in the city of Alexandria with visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing.

Mubarak said Egypt-China relations are solid and deep. The two sides enjoy sound political relations, frequent top-level exchanges of visit and constantly enhanced economic and trade cooperation. Egypt places a high priority on the development of relations with China and is fully confident of the prospects of bilateral strategic and cooperative relations. Mubarak happily recalled his eight visits to China, indicating that he cherishes the deep friendship with Chinese leaders and hopes to visit China again next year.

Li Zhaoxing noted that during President Hu's visit to Egypt early this year, the two heads of state reached broad consensus on enhancing traditional friendship between the two countries and deepening the strategic and cooperative relations, thus defining the future direction for China-Egypt relations in the new century. Over the past more than half a year, China has closely coordinated with Egypt to implement the achievements of the talks between the two heads of state. As a result, bilateral relations have witnessed positive developments. It is believed that with the care from both leaderships and concerted efforts of both sides, China-Egypt strategic and cooperative relations will definitely score further developments.

Mubarak also shared his views on the situation in the Middle East.
